Known for its extensive research in human health, the company introduces the Bimuno Pet brand to support pet nutrition formulators.

Clasado Biosciences, a prominent developer of prebiotic ingredients, has expanded into the pet nutrition sector in response to growing demand for gut health solutions in animals.

Headquartered in Reading, UK, the company noted the global pet food market is expected to reach a value of US$161.6 billion by 2028, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.2%. With increasing interest in prebiotics for animal health, the company is introducing the Bimuno Pet brand to support pet nutrition formulators.

"For two decades, Clasado has been at the forefront of prebiotic research and development, primarily focused on human health applications," said Per Rehné, CEO. "As we mark our 20th anniversary, we're using our gut microbiome expertise to support the rapidly growing pet nutrition sector. This move represents a natural evolution for our business and an opportunity to contribute to the health and wellbeing of companion animals."

The company’s prebiotic ingredient, Bimuno GOS, is widely researched in the GOS (galactooligosaccharides) category, with support from over 120 scientific publications, including more than 20 clinical trials.

The efficacy of Bimuno GOS has been demonstrated in areas of gastrointestinal health, bowel health, immune health and immune defense. Bimuno GOS is associated with pet nutrition-specific health claims in certain markets, such as China and Taiwan, which can be use on-pack and in marketing materials.

"The pet nutrition market is seeing a surge in demand for gut health supporting products, driven by the increasing awareness of the microbiome by the wider market," said Steven Riley, head of B2B and corporate marketing. "We can meet this demand head-on, applying our extensive knowledge of prebiotic galactooligosaccharides to support animal health.

"The pet nutrition market is growing at speed as owners seek to continually improve their pets’ quality of life," Riley continued. "Gut health forms a natural area of focus in this regard, and of course, prebiotics."
